This is a new piece from the inventory of a closed Irish crafts shop. It\'s handcast in limestone by Mairead Canning and Kieran Forde at the Forde Crafts studio in Kilcullen, County Kildare, Ireland. The Riverine Heads are reproductions of those on James Gandon\'s Custom House in Dublin, considered by many to be Ireland\'s greatest architectural masterpiece. Standing alongside the river Liffey, it was built in the 1780\'s overlooking what was then the main docks. Gandon employed Edward Smyth to carry out the sculpture work for the building. Included among his work are fourteen heads on the keystones of the arches of the main doorways and windows. These magnificent carvings represent thirteen of the most important rivers in Ireland and the Atlantic Ocean. This represents the Shannon. Size is approximately 7\" by 4.625\". Each sculpture comes in a box and with a tag explaining the significance of the designs incorporated in the sculpture. The details are fascinating and the sculptures are perfect as a wall decoration inside or out.
