Early 19th century linen and silk work sampler by Eliza Taylor aged 11 - 1826. This sampler is just stunning with fine quality stitch work throughout. The upper and middle sections of the linen are stitched with the following two verses divided by a meandering floral border with a quartet of birds to each side of the title of the first, the verse being a bit tricky to read due to the colour of thread Eliza has used

The lower section of the linen contains a central blossom tree with a crown and fruit basket plus two birds to either side of its topmost blooms, two birds on a tree to the left and right of its side blooms and a bird, dog, heart and floral motif to both sides of its lower blooms, the latter with a trio of birds on top. Eliza\'s details and the date of 1826 flank the trunk of the tree, then the whole piece is surrounded by a deep honeysuckle border.
The linen has overall discolouration consistent with its age, paler around the edges and darker to the field from where the sampler is or has been over a stretcher. There are also a couple of small dark stains to the bottom edge, one to the upper left corner and another to the centre of the right side edge. The sampler is behind glass so I\'m not able to see the reverse, but the colours of the silks appear good though they are likely to have mellowed to some extent over the years. There is also a small amount of minor bleeding to the two birds on the left side fruit basket. The sampler is contained within its seemingly original oak frame which is in good condition with some scratches andscuff marks commensurate with its age, some deeper than others.
PLEASE NOTE - This is a fairly large piece measuring 16 1/4\" x 18 3/4\" (sight size) and 20 3/4\" x 23 3/4\" including the frame.
