Excellent fluorapatite crystal cluster from the famous Cerro de Mercado Mine, Durango, Mexico, one of the world’s classic localities for collectible apatite. This 70-gram specimen features a substantial, well-developed apatite crystal surrounded by several additional crystals and contrasting matrix. The apatite displays unusual reddish-brown, rust-red and warm honey coloration, with areas of translucency and highly reflective crystal faces. The largest crystal has an especially impressive chunky form and dominates the specimen.Contrasting dark lustrous mineralization along with cream/white crystalline aggregates makes this a particularly interesting multi-mineral example. Rather than being a loose single crystal, the apatite remains associated with its original matrix and accompanying minerals, giving the piece excellent character and displaying the geology of this famous deposit.Mineral: Fluorapatite with associated minerals
