Monumental 13" Mid-Century Czech Art Glass Vase Designed by Josef Hospodka for Sklárna Chřibská (Czechoslovakia) – Circa 1960s
Up for sale is a breathtaking, monumental example of mid-century Bohemian modernist glass. Designed by the legendary master glassmaker Josef Hospodka for the historic Chřibská glassworks, this massive 12-inch vase features a stunning visual presence.
Most Chřibská vases of this style were produced in standard 8 to 11-inch sizes; finding an authentic, exhibition-sized statement piece standing at an impressive 13 inches is exceptionally rare.
Design & Craftsmanship:Technique:
Free-blown using the iconic "Sommerso" (cased) glass method. A vibrant, deep ocean-blue inner core is beautifully suspended within heavy, thick, high-clarity clear crystal.
Form: Organic, fluid, and sculptural. Features a dramatic undulating rim and stylized pulled fins/handles along the body that beautifully capture and refract light.
Uniqueness: Because this piece was entirely handmade and free-blown, it is a one-of-a-kind work of art.
Weight: Very heavy, solid vintage crystal
Color: Deep Blue and Translucent Clear
Origin: Czechoslovakia (Bohemian)
Condition Report: Excellent vintage condition. The glass retains beautiful clarity and shine. As expected with authentic hand-blown glass of this age, there may be minor shelf wear/faint scratching on the polished base and tiny, natural air bubbles trapped inside from production.
