Barite var. HokutoliteTamagawa Hot Springs, Akita Prefecture, Japan2.9 x 2.2 centimetersEx. A.L. Flagg collection
An excellent specimen of hokutolite with well formed crystals scattered across the surface of matrix. This rare barite varietal is known from only a few acidic hot springs worldwide. This locality has not been collectable for many many years and I've been told that a number of specimens returned with soldiers after WWII. This was from the collection of Arizona mineral legend Arthur Flagg (1892 - 1961), founder of the Mineralogical Society of Arizona and author of a number of books.
