Authentic Turn-of-the-Century Sioux Style Long-Handled Stone War Club ca. 1890–1920 (Late Historic / Reservation Era)This exceptional piece of Indigenous weaponry was cquired immediately following World War II. It has been safely preserved in a single private family collection for over 80 years. Because its collection history securely predates the modern reproduction and hobbyist market, it stands as an authentic early-20th-century or late-19th-century tribal object. This ceremonial or dance club represents classic Northern Plains (highly indicative of Sioux/Lakota) craftsmanship utilized during the reservation and Wild West show eras for society regalia, ritual dances, and trade. It features a beautifully balanced, hand-polished, bi-pointed hardstone head. The center of the stone is carved with traditional recessed horizontal rings showcasing faint, historic traces of original red, blue, and green pigment fills.- The head is hafted to the wooden shaft using natural rawhide skin. Over the last century, this organic material has dried, oxidized, and shrunk immovably around the stone, locking it permanently into place. The long wooden handle is wrapped in a full-length leather sleeve held together by a tight, hand-sewn vertical \"baseball stitch\" utilizing an aged organic cord. Offered in a completely untouched antique condition. The wood shaft is straight and solid. The entire piece exhibits a deep, rich, natural golden-amber leather patina that only forms through decades of natural oxidation. No modern repairs, artificial aging, or modifications have been made.
