The Arapaho (correctly spelled \"Arapaho\") people, a Plains Native American tribe, hold sacred ceremonial pipes as central to their spiritual traditions. The \"peace pipe\" is a common misnomer originating from European observers who saw pipes used in treaty signings; in reality, these are sacred pipes used for prayer, ceremonies, blessings, and communion with the Creator, not exclusively (or even primarily) for peace negotiations.
