For sale is an authentic, mid-19th-century American pewter teapot manufactured by the historic silversmiths Reed & Barton (Taunton, Massachusetts). This beautiful piece features a classic multi-paneled/faceted body, an ornate cast metal handle, and a hinged lid with a decorative finial. Maker's Marks:
Stamped clearly on the bottom: "PEWTER / REED & BARTON / 15 / TEA" along with the original manufacturer sizing stamps. This indicates it is pattern number 15 from their early pewter/Britannia ware line, dating roughly to the 1840s–1850s.Condition Report:
- Interior: Remarkably clean interior bottom with light, uniform age-related coloration. No scaling, mineral crusting, or deep pitting.
- Exterior: Features a gorgeous, soft satin pewter patina. No heavy black corrosion or modern polishing damage.
- Handle/Structure: Cast metal handle is structurally intact. Note: There is a very slight aesthetic gap/separation at the top scroll mount near the rim (typical of soft metalware of this age), but the handle remains firmly attached. Dimensions & Display:
Sits flat and balanced. Perfect addition to any Early American pewter, Britannia ware, or Victorian metalware collection. *Safety Note: Sold strictly as an antique collectors' display piece. Not recommended for food or beverage consumption due to historical alloy composition.*
