Beautiful antique miniature oil portrait of a young woman, painted on a small wood panel and presented in an elaborate gilt Rococo Revival-style frame. The sitter is shown in profile with auburn hair swept into a classical updo, softly draped white fabric across one shoulder, and a deep green background. Her classical dress and idealized features suggest that the work was intended as a beauty or classical maiden study, a popular subject in late Victorian and Edwardian painting. The tiny oval portrait is especially lovely against the dramatically oversized gilt surround. The frame features raised scrolling foliate, shell and acanthus-style ornamentation with an aged gold finish. At only 7.5 x 8.5 inches overall, it is a wonderful petite piece for a gallery wall, bookshelf, cabinet display, or layered antique interior.Details:* Antique oil portrait
