This overlay is usually tin, copper, or galvanized.Tin Overlay / Metal Trim:Ornamental or protective sheet metal/tin trim and corner accents were popular features on hand-made or factory-made utilitarian and machinist chests during thelate 1800s to 1910sto reinforce edges and prevent splintering. All drawers are solid oak and metal bottoms. This thing is so solid it weighs over 22 pounds empty.What a beautiful piece to give a slight makeover or simply leave it with its beautiful patina and add to the collection.
