Up for sale is a beautiful, authentic piece of late-19th to early-20th-century German craftsmanship. This miniature dome-top casket features heavy-gauge sheet metal bound by hand-riveted iron straps, mimicking the medieval Nuremberg style popular during the European Historicism movement.Notably, the back of the box showcasesdistinct, authentic hand-hammered artisan marksrippling across the metal surface. This stunning texture was purposefully executed by a metalworker to provide a rustic, hand-wrought appearance. Collectors will highly appreciate this physical proof of old-world artisan labor, which sets it apart from mass-produced, machine-stamped alternatives. The box rests on its original dome-shaped metal feet and features gorgeous leaf/clover-shaped hinges on the back. The front is adorned with an ornate cutout iron escutcheon (lock plate) and a drop-down ring hasp. The interior is lined with its original protective wood structure, designed to keep delicate heirlooms or important documents safe from ambient humidity.Provenance:
