Antique Haviland Limoges Hand Painted Chocolate Pot Set Roses Gold France
Watermark circa 1894-1931
Hand painted Haviland Limoges chocolate set from the Victorian era, decorated with full blown pink and yellow roses and trailing thorny canes.
The porcelain shades from a soft ethereal green at the base into warm cream and ivory toward the rim, a delicate coloring that is difficult to find.
One of the most beautiful aspects of this particular set is the translucency, please see the collage of photographs of the pieces held up to a window light to see the quality of the porcelain.
The chocolate pot has a scalloped gilded spout, a domed lid crowned by a gold ribbon finial, and a sculpted green handle that twists like a branch.
Roses wrap the body and carry across the lid, the painting flowing without interruption from pot to cover.
Each cup flares gently from a narrow base and is finished with a gold rim and a green vine handle.
The painting on the cups and the saucers reads as one continuous composition when a cup is set in its saucer.
Included are the covered chocolate pot, five cups, and six saucers, so an additional saucer comes along with the set.
Every base carries the Haviland France backstamp.
No artist signature is present, though the hand work is masterfully done throughout.
Best kept as a display set rather than for serving, as the age and hand applied paint are of unknown composition.
Era
Victorian to 1900s
Measurements
Chocolate pot 9.5 inches tall
Cup 3.5 inches tall
Saucer 5 inches across
For full measurements please see the collage of photographs measuring every possible part of the set
Condition
Pot, cups, and saucer have no cracks. There is a single hairline crack in the lid of the chocolate pot that appears to be from the weight of the gold crown. Please see photographs to see the exact placement and condition of the top of the chocolate pot. Two of the saucers have flaws on the bottom as photographed.
Gilding shows very light wear, truly remarkable considering the age.
Expect minor wear throughout in keeping with an antique hand painted set.
Again, take care when using the set for eating or drinking, occasional use should not be detrimental to your health but they did use lead in both the porcelain and the paint in the Victorian era and if you plan to utilize the set a lot you will want to have it tested.
This is being sold as is and as photographed.
Due to the high volume of items I have to list I am unable to take any further photos or measurements at this time.
😻😻 Your purchase helps me continue to fund my artistic work as a photographer in Hollywood California. It also helps me to feed my increasingly finicky cat who now only wants the most expensive cat food 😻😻
