A beautiful antique Chinese cloisonné enamel covered jar, distinguished by exceptionally intricate wirework and a rich turquoise-blue enamel ground.
The decoration is created with hundreds of fine metal wires forming individual cloisons filled with vitreous enamel. Particularly striking is the exceptionally dense spiral scroll ground surrounding stylized floral and foliate motifs - a highly detailed decorative treatment requiring remarkable precision and craftsmanship.
The fitted lid continues the same intricate decoration, with a central floral motif surrounded by tightly arranged spiral wirework.
Both the interior and underside are finished in turquoise-blue counter-enamel. The underside displays characteristic firing pinholes, small pits and natural irregularities associated with the traditional enameling process. The exposed metal rims retain naturally developed patina and age-related wear, with reddish copper-colored metal visible in areas where the gold-toned surface has worn.
The piece is completely unmarked.
Based on its construction, enamel work, decorative style and comparison with period examples, the jar appears consistent with Chinese cloisonné production of the late 19th to early 20th century, approximately c.1890-1920

Condition:
Very good antique condition with age-appropriate wear, patina and oxidation. Traditional firing irregularities are visible in the enamel, including small pinholes, pits and uneven areas. One localized area along the turquoise band of the lid shows irregular enamel coverage and oxidation, appearing consistent with a manufacturing/firing irregularity rather than a later chip. The lid fits properly. Please see close-up photographs.
The piece has not been polished or chemically cleaned during current ownership.
