A wonderful piece of early 20th-century Egyptian Revival design! This antique Benedict Karnak Brass desk clock features a beautifully aged brass case with an elegant arched top, Egyptian-inspired decorative motifs, geometric Greek-key detailing, and a raised pharaoh-style head at the center.
Manufactured by the Benedict Manufacturing Company of East Syracuse, New York, this clock belongs to the company's distinctive Karnak Brass line, introduced in the early 1900s. The combination of golden brass and green-accented decoration reflects the Egyptian Revival aesthetic that became popular in American decorative arts during this period.
The underside retains its original stamped manufacturer's mark reading "BENEDICT KARN AK BRASS 164," identifying the Karnak Brass line and design number 164. The movement is stamped with a patent date of May 29, 1894, which refers to the clock mechanism rather than the manufacture date of the complete piece.
