Antique Austrian Art Nouveau jardinière, produced circa 1895–1910 in the
Turn-Teplitz / Amphora family style.
This piece shows strong Japonisme influence, reflected in the fantasy
dragon handles, asymmetrical sculptural form, and decorative floral
panels with raised slip and hand-applied gilt detailing. The glaze
exhibits the soft matte tones and flowing transitions typical of late
19th-century Austrian Art Nouveau earthenware.
• Height: approx. 9 inches
• Width: approx. 9.5 inches handle to handle
• Drain hole present (jardinière form)
The underside bears hand-applied workshop numbers and typical kiln wear
seen on authentic Turn-Teplitz / Amphora piece has an old, stable repair to the base/foot, visible from the
underside and shown clearly in photographs. There are areas of light
see-through mineral staining to the glaze, consistent with age and prior
use as a planted jardinière. Gilding shows normal age-related wear. No
evidence of modern repainting or concealment.
Despite the noted base repair, this remains an attractive and highly
decorative Art Nouveau garden form with strong visual presence.
Please review all photos carefully, as they are part of the description.
