Add a touch of early 20th-century innovation to your library, office, or gallery wall display with this exceptionally striking Hammond No. 12 Typewriter. Manufactured by The Hammond Typewriter Company in New York circa 1905, this antique machine features James Bartlett Hammond’s legendary \"Ideal\" curved keyboard layout—a geometric marvel designed around the mathematical frequency of English letter placement.
Most notably, this machine retains its original, pristine crescent celluloid shield with sharp gothic lettering reading \"No. Hammond 12.\" and features the iconic embossed brass manufacturer\'s medallion on the wood baseplate: \"For All Nations and Tongues\"—celebrating its revolutionary ability to seamlessly interchange language type shuttles.
Condition Notes:
Cosmetically, the font lettering, keys, and mechanical finish are beautifully preserved. Mechanically, the spacebar, return mechanism, and the margins warning bell are fully responsive and function smoothly. The 120-year-old vulcanized rubber platen roller displays heavy age-cracking typical of this era, rendering it a high-end display piece unless professionally re-rubbered. The original shaped oak baseplate is intact but slightly fragile near the bottom edges, with some small pieces of wood decorative trim missing along the backside edge. Please review the detailed photos to assess this authentic antique patina.
