Antique promissory note from Grass Valley, California, dated July 16, 1901. This historical financial document is for the sum of sixty dollars, payable in U.S. Gold Coin to the order of S. Starr. The note features a striking vignette of a Native American woman with a spear on the left side and was printed by The J.K. Gill Co. Manufacturing Stationers in Portland, Oregon. It includes handwritten details and signatures, including Charles A. Chapman, and bears the "U.S. Bond" watermark emblem. A fascinating piece of turn-of-the-century California history and ephemera.
