Antiq Victorian Staffordshire Earthenware The Bird Nesters Courting Couple 9.25\":
$240.00

Beautiful authentic Mid-19th-Century Victorian Staffordshire pearlware figurine. This charming piece features a traditional country harvest couple in vibrant hand-painted pastel enamels. The male figure is dressed in a dotted pink breeches and a dotted white blouse, and he is offering an egg nest gift to a lady. The female figure partner is dressed in a draped yellow gown with green, purple, and orange details. Dating to circa 1840-1860, this piece features a fully molded round base typical of earlier Victorian production, preceding the strictly flat-backed figures of the later era.
Specifications:* Era: Victorian (Mid-19th-Century)* Origin: Staffordshire, England* Patter: The Bird Nesters* Material: Glazed Earthenware* Height: Approximately 9 1/4 in (9.25\")* Weigh: 1 Lb 11 oz* Base: Round Molded Base* Authentication Marks: Features an original tiny firing vent hole in the center back, a hallmark of authentic 19th century kiln production.
Condition Report:This antique figurine is in lovely, display-ready condition with great color retention.* Manufacturing Details: There is a minor, stable separation line on the male figure\'s sleeve between the arm and forearm. This appears to be a classic, original firing hairline/shrinkage crack from the kiln during production rather than post-market damage or a repair. It also have what is called \"Pepper Spots\". During the mid-19th century, the clay and glazes used in Staffordshire factories were mixed and refined by hand, often in mills using iron machinery. Tiny particles of iron ore or manganese from the local English soil or grinding tools would get trapped inside the raw clay body. When the figurine was placed into the coal-fired kilns, the extreme heat caused these microscopic bits of metal to react, melt, and \"bleed\" through the white clay, manifesting as tiny black or dark gray pinpricks under the glaze.* General Wear: Expect minor age-appropriate wear to the hand-painted enamel, light scratches, and light crazing inherent to 150+ year old earthenware. No major chips, post-production breaks, or modern restorations detected.
