The 6th US Cavalry was a notable Civil War combat unit and fought the Comanches and Kiowa, patrolling the Texas Frontier as far west as Palo Duro Canyon. An Original 6th US Cavalry Muster Roll for Company A, filled in at Austin, Texas, April 30,1866, and ink signed by Captain Benjamin Tucker Hutchins as Company Commander, issued during the Comanche/Kiowa War just as nearby Fort Richardson was being built by the 6th Cavalry. The Muster Roll names 32 some troopers and officers , signed by each man as Present for Duty and again as having received pay, some by illiterate soldiers with \"X his mark\". Also with comments that some are on detached duty or on furlough etc, and on the reverse names 4 men who are listed as having deserted at Austin, Texas and at at Greenville, Louisiana. 2pp, 21 x 31\" ptd/ink, with folds, a few minor acid free archival repairs, minor edge wear, age stains, Overall VG. Comes w service info. Captains Hutchins WHOserved in the 6th US Cavalry from 1861- to 1869 and fought the Comanches and Kiowa on the Texas Frontier when this Muster Roll was issued.
