About the Marionettes
An extraordinary pair of handcrafted European character marionettes, acquired circa 2003 and offered together as a pair.
What immediately distinguishes these ladies is their remarkable individuality. Each was created as her own character-not simply another version of the same doll.
Their wonderfully expressive faces feature elaborate hand-painted details: dramatic eyes and eye shadow, individually painted lashes and brows, shaded complexions and beautifully painted lips.
The workmanship continues through their sculpted hands and individually painted fingernails, extravagant feathered hairstyles and exceptionally elaborate clothing.
Their costumes incorporate numerous layers and textures, including satin, velvet, lace, netting, decorative trims, jewelry and feather work. Even their tiny period-style boots are beautifully detailed.
Both retain their marionette strings and wooden controls.
