History of the 1956 Aston Martin DBR1:
The Aston Martin DBR1 is one of the most important racing cars in Aston Martin history, created specifically for international sports-car competition rather than adapted from a road car. Its racing career began at the 1956 24 Hours of Le Mans, and after early setbacks, the DBR1 became a dominant force in endurance racing. In 1959, a DBR1 driven by Carroll Shelby and Roy Salvadori delivered Aston Martin its only outright victory at Le Mans, while another DBR1 finished second to give the marque a historic 1-2 finish. Only five factory examples were built, making the DBR1 exceptionally rare. The car also has a memorable connection toTop Gun: Maverick, where an Aston Martin DBR1 appears in Pete “Maverick” Mitchell’s hangar alongside his P-51 Mustang.
