Prominent readable storefront signage includes:
- Lawson Hardware and Supply Co.
- Coney Corner
- a vertical BEER sign
- additional restaurant and advertising signage
The scene is especially appealing for its dense period detail: late-1940s automobiles, storefront architecture, utility poles, signage and a neighborhood commercial intersection.
The reverse is handwritten:
“Tulsa, Ok 1949”
and bears the stamped number:
“110”
The handwritten identification gives this photograph an unusually useful exact date and location.
Although Tulsa has a well-documented history of coney restaurants dating back to the 1920s, I have not independently established whether the Coney Corner shown here was connected to any of Tulsa’s better-known coney businesses, so no such connection is claimed.
Measures approximately 3.25 x 4.5 inches.
A strong original image for collectors of Tulsa history, Oklahoma photographs, vintage storefronts, roadside advertising, hardware stores, restaurants, 1940s automobiles and American street photography.
