This vintage magazine page from late 1938 or early 1939 features a striking black and white photograph of Minot's Ledge Lighthouse in Cohasset, Massachusetts, being battered by a powerful North Atlantic storm. The accompanying text, titled "PICTURES TO THE EDITORS," details the lighthouse's history, the intensity of the storm on November 20th, and credits Edward Rowe Snow of Winthrop, Mass. This historical image captures a dramatic moment in maritime history, showcasing the resilience of these iconic structures against nature's fury.Adding to its appeal, the reverse side (or adjacent section) of the page displays a classic full-page advertisement for VAT 69 Blended Scotch Whisky. The ad, titled "Quality Tells," features elegant illustrations of men enjoying the beverage, highlighting its "No. 1 in Taste" and "8 Years Old" distinction. It also notes "By Appointment to the Prince of Wales 1936" and "H.M. King of Sweden," along with "Park & Tilford Import Corp., New York, N.Y." This piece of ephemera offers a unique glimpse into both historical events and vintage advertising from the pre-WWII era, making it a fascinating collectible for enthusiasts of lighthouses, maritime history, vintage ads, and liquor memorabilia.
