Detroit & Cleveland Navigation Company - A tissue deck plan (14" by 24") for the D&C Line's Great Lakes fleet.
Four sets of color-coded plans cover six ships. Although undated, the plan is from the 1920s or 30s.
D&C's sister ships of 1924, GREATER BUFFALO and GREATER DETROIT, were the largest and newest with Parlor Suites including private verandahs, costing a whooping $19.50 for the overnight run. Next up was the CITY OF DETROIT III of 1911 where private verandah suites sold for $10, although bargain hunters could share an inner room for just $1.25. Likewise with the sightly older CITY OF CLEVELAND III of 1907. Finally, old-timers EASTERN STATES and WESTERN STATES of 1901 and 1902 also had luxurious verandah suites for $10 a night.
Surprisingly, in an era where these big wooden paddle-wheelers were known to burn regularly, all six survived into the post-war era.
