Offered here is an original November 25, 1896 handwritten letter on illustrated letterhead of Spaulding & Company, Boston, Massachusetts. The sheet measures approximately 9.5 x 11.5 inches and features an attractive multi-font printed header advertising:
The decorative typography and banner-style product panel give this strong Victorian retail appeal.
The letter is addressed to Mr. Cook and is signed at the bottom by Geo. W. Thurston (George W. Thurston). The content is unusually personal and complimentary in tone. Thurston refers to a prior financial difficulty during his mercantile career and notes that Mr. Cook voluntarily paid him the remaining balance of $100 after a dividend settlement. He emphasizes that many debtors promised such action, but Cook was the only one who actually fulfilled it. The letter praises Cook’s honorable character and states the writer wished to make this act a matter of record so it could be shown to his children.
This is not a routine business letter — it is a character testimonial tied to a financial settlement, making it more interesting than standard correspondence.

Original fold lines, moderate age toning, edge wear, and light staining on reverse from old storage. Ink remains clear and fully legible. Strong display presence due to bold letterhead design.
