Rare 1896 Official Map of Washington, D.C. – 15th International Christian Endeavor Convention – Standalone Pocket Map in Excellent Condition
Well-preserved, authentic 1896 \"Official Map of Washington\" published for the Fifteenth International Christian Endeavor Convention, held from July 8–13, 1896. Copyrighted by Anson S. Taylor and William B. Robison, and beautifully engraved and printed by the renowned Norris Peters Company of Washington, D.C., this artifact is a fascinating Gilded Age historical document. Unlike copies that are tightly bound into institutional books or heavily worn from delegate use, this is a standalone pocket map variant in excellent collectible condition.
The 1896 Christian Endeavor Convention brought tens of thousands of global delegates to the nation\'s capital. To accommodate the massive crowds, a famous \"tent city\" was erected directly on the White Lot (now the National Mall between the White House and the Washington Monument). This map explicitly labels the locations of these historic structures—including Tent Williston, Tent Endeavor, and Tent Washington—offering a rare cartographic footprint of the National Mall\'s temporary landscape.

Condition Report:• Very nice, premium collectible condition.• The lithographed lines and text remain crisp, bold, and clear.• The paper is clean with minimal toning or aging.• Fold lines are remarkably clean with no major cross-axis splitting or separation, which is highly unusual for a folding pocket map of this era.This is a scarce piece of D.C. cartographic history and religious exposition ephemera, with very few surviving standalone copies in commerce. Institutional examples are primarily held in specialized collections like the Library of Congress. Based on institutional scarcity there are only 5 known library holdings via OCLC.
