Original 19th-century stereoview from the World’s Industrial and Cotton Centennial Exposition, held in New Orleans in 1884–1885, published by the Centennial Photographic Co. and associated with Edward L. Wilson.
The image shows an elaborate interior trade or advertising display, with the lower caption reading:
“239. He and She ‘At Home,’ New Year’s Day, 1885.”
Visible signage includes “Magnolia” and “M. Ferrand, Hallcross & Co., Louisville, Ky.” The display includes a staged Victorian interior scene with figures, decorative advertising signs, product displays, awards or medallions, and other promotional material. The view documents a commercial exposition exhibit combining advertising, product promotion, and period interior presentation.
The mount is printed along the sides:
“Centennial Photographic Co., Philadelphia, 1876.”
“1884 — New Orleans — 1885.”
The reverse bears the decorative imprint of the Centennial Photographic Co. / International Exhibition, naming Edward L. Wilson, with the card marked Registered 1884 / Copyrighted 1884.
Condition:
Original stereoview card with age toning, fading, soiling, spotting, staining, surface wear, and edge and corner wear. There is visible wear and some image loss and flaking to the albumen prints, especially toward the left side, along with general handling wear consistent with age. Please review photos carefully for condition.
