A full-page Thomas Nast political cartoon targeting New York Citys corrupt government under the influence of Tammany Hall — captioned "A Chance to Steal Without the Risk of the Penitentiary." Published in February 1867 — four years before Nasts legendary and devastating 1871 campaign that brought down Boss Tweed — this early Tammany cartoon is a primary document of Nasts long anti-corruption crusade. The cartoon was sold at sale by Artemis Fine Arts in 2021 and is cited in its catalog as page 88 of the February 9, 1867 issue. Nasts attacks on Tammany corruption "had appeared occasionally since 1867," according to Wikipedias Thomas Nast article — and this is one of those early salvos.
