~~WWII~Rare~Original~ Army of France Pigeon ....Band # AF 40 4oooo..yes used by the French Resistance during WWII.....This Pigeon along with many German and USA Pigeons made the trip to the USA after WWII...many...The USA S.C. Pigeoneers of the Army Signal Corps were in charge of this...USA also brought back other Racing Pigeons also from other countries from Western Europe..some used in carrying messages in the War and some that were used for (Stock) breeders..all on a militarty list of the birds band numbers came with them....Belgium birds were in this group also...
This French Pigeon was likely hatched in the early part of 1940...To the best of my knowledge during the Occupation of France no \"AF\" pigeon bands were manufactured ..The German Army invaded France in May 1940 ..at which time the French Resistance went underground and did what had to do..to save France..they worked with the USA \"OSS\" in 1942... and others during the occupation of Germany ...later with the landing in Normandy France, came the Pigeoneers of the US Army Signal Corps...
The German authorities were well aware of the danger racing pigeons were to their occupationTo combat this they took brutal countermeasuses..The German Military command issuedstrict rulings stating that any civilian caught breeding, or housing or supplying carrier pigeon without autherzation wood be executed at once...This was stated and enforced by the Nazi\'s SS units..that were in control.
