This evocative WWII period stationary portfolio has a front cover featuring a painted three dimensional aircraft carrier plunging through the waves and framed by a gilded compass rose. This is probably not US Navy issue but something that would have been made commercially for WWII naval personnel. The interior features a sleeve on the left side for correspondence which is two photo pockets; one containing a wartime tinted photo of Maureen O\'Hara and the other containing a calendar for 1942. The opposite side of the interior has what I believe is the original tablet that came with the folder. The tablet has several pages missing but the one that remains is a basketball coaches notes for team training. It is dated 1946. I would be my guess that the person who wrote out these notes was the WWII veteran himself or a family member (son?). The large stack on the aircraft carrier suggests that it is modeled on the Lexington Class of carriers that were built in the 1930\'s - appropriate for this period during the war. The portfolio id 11.25\" x 9.25\". It has some wear on the corners and edges but looks to be quite serviceable.
