This beautifully crafted Viking helmet is a replica of an original find from the ship grave of Valsgärde (Boat grave 8), a farm on the banks of the river Fyris (Fyrisån) near Old-Uppsala (Gamla Uppsala), Sweden. The grave is dated ca. 625 - 650 AD. The original of the helmet is kept in the Gustavianum Museum at Uppsala University. The replica was made of 1.2mm thick steel. The plates with the motives on it were made of thinner steel and were fixed to the helmet with the help of the brass bands. The elaborate patterns were made true to the original motifs. The chain-bell was made of riveted flat rings, which have an inner diameter of 9mm. A high-quality, size-adjustable leather inlay and chinstrap were worked in for the attachment on the head.
