How It worked...In the early days of passenger air travel, aircraft did not have built-in air-conditioning systems like modern airplanes do today. Instead, they relied on external air-conditioning trucks to keep the interior cool. This service was especially important during the hot summer months and in regions with warm climates.
Air-conditioning trucks were specially designed vehicles equipped with refrigeration units. These trucks were stationed near the aircraft and connected to the airplane through large hoses or ducts.
Before passengers boarded the aircraft, the air-conditioning truck and the GPU were positioned near the airplane. The hoses from the air-conditioning truck were attached to the aircraft\'s ventilation system, and the GPU was connected to the airplane\'s electrical systems.
The air-conditioning truck used its refrigeration unit to produce cold air, which was then pumped into the aircraft\'s cabin through the connected hoses. This process helped maintain a comfortable temperature inside the cabin for the passengers and crew.
It\'s important to note that this process was time-consuming and required coordination between the ground crew, pilots, and airline personnel to ensure a smooth operation. Over time, advancements in aviation technology led to the development of onboard air-conditioning systems and more efficient power generation methods, making the reliance on external air-conditioning trucks and GPUs unnecessary.
