VINTAGE WWII / U.S. OCCUPATION ERA BAVARIA SOUVENIR PHOTO ALBUM
Wonderful original cord-bound souvenir picture book devoted to Bavaria, Germany.
This type of Bavaria souvenir album is associated with the immediate WWII and American occupation period, when large numbers of American servicemen stationed in southern Germany acquired local photographic albums and souvenirs to bring home.
The striking illustrated cover features the historic Bavarian coat of arms, Alpine scenery, a chalet and a woman in traditional Bavarian dress.
Inside are numerous photographic views documenting Bavaria and its famous cities, landscapes, churches, lakes and landmarks.
Among the views visible in this album are:
MUNICH
STARNBERG LAKE
THEATINER CHURCH
Additional photographs and pages continue throughout the album. Only a selection of the extensive contents has been photographed for this listing.
The album is bound along the side with its original decorative cord and has an especially attractive period color cover.
Albums of this type have become collectible not only as German travel memorabilia but also as artifacts of the enormous American military presence in Bavaria at the end of World War II and during the occupation of Germany.
