Original WWII-era U.S. serviceman personal-effects grouping, offered together exactly as found.
This is an unusually personal collection containing a named military identification tag, handwritten address book, wartime photograph, Catholic devotional material, leather personal items, and a large WSAI/C.S. Hammond WWII war-map set.
The identification tag appears to read ADOLPHUS C. WINTRINGER, and the address book contains a handwritten inscription for “Pvt. A.C. Wintringer” along with military information. Because the name appears on more than one piece, the items appear to have belonged to or been associated with the same serviceman.
Included in the grouping:
* Original metal military identification/dog tag marked Adolphus C. Wintringer, with additional stamped service information
* Original black-and-white photograph of a young serviceman standing beside a tracked military vehicle marked B-212; writing on the reverse reads, “And here am I cleaning the damn thing up for an inspection.”
* Large vintage WSAI Time Clocked News – WAR MAPS foldout/map set, maps copyrighted by C.S. Hammond & Co., N.Y.
* WWII map coverage includes the Atlantic, Britain, France, Germany, Berlin, Mediterranean, North Africa, Middle East, Russia/Black Sea, Pacific, China/Japan/Philippines, Australia/New Guinea, Solomon Islands/Guadalcanal and other wartime regions
* Vintage address and telephone book with horse/horseshoe cover, approximately 8” tall
* Address book contains numerous handwritten names, addresses, military references and contacts from locations across the United States and elsewhere
* Pocket Catholic prayer/devotional book in very worn protective cover
* 1942 Franciscan Missionary Union wartime devotional card reading “God Protect You — Mary Keep You Safe”
* “A Prayer for Peace and Victory” devotional card
* St. Benedict / St. Maurus / St. Placidus religious card
* Brown leather money/document/travel belt or pouch with multiple compartments and long strap; main body approximately 15” long
* Embossed leather comb case decorated with military aircraft, with vintage comb
* Other pieces shown in the photographs are included
Provenance / historical interest
These items were acquired together as a grouping and are being kept together rather than separated.
Of particular interest is the apparent connection between the Adolphus C. Wintringer identification tag and the handwritten “Pvt. A.C. Wintringer” inscription in the address book. The book also contains numerous handwritten military and civilian contacts.
The 1942 Catholic serviceman devotional material, original wartime photograph and WSAI war maps further support a WWII-period context for the collection.
I have not independently researched or verified the serviceman’s complete military service record, so no specific unit, combat service, deployment or ownership history beyond what is visible on the items is being claimed.
