WWII Sterling Silver 1942-43 BSA Boy Scouts 5 Year Service Pin Badge
The back of the pin is stamped sterling meaning it was created during WWII when use of materials such as brass/bronze alloys was restricted. Manufacturers such as Robbins Co and Bastian Bros. shifted producted from brass/bronze alloys to sterling silver. Because the pin regulations called for a gold finish (and blue enamel), the maker struck the blank from Sterling silver and electroplated the piece with a thin gold wash before applying the blue enamel.
The pin is stamped \"Sterling\" on the back side giving this peice a little extra story and interesting fact.
