THIS IS A STUNNING 1950’s-1960’s PIECE OF ART SCULPTURE MASQUERADING AS A TAPER CANDLE HOLDER CRAFTED BY DAUM FRANCE. Sometimes referred to as the Tulip Block candleholder by mid-century collectors. Even without a candle, this signed Daum piece stands beautifully on its own as a striking work of Mid-Century Modern sculptural art. This piece features an incredible, eclectic design that perfectly balances bold, modernist architecture with the organic fluid lines of a blooming lotus flower. From above, the sculpted petals display a striking, stylized star silhouette. Rather than sitting on a fragile stem, this candlestick is sculpted from a massive, solid block of premium French lead crystal. It carries an extraordinary, substantial heft that anchors a tabletop beautifully. This lovely piece is an uncommonly seen Daum design from the 50’s-60’s, a seldom-seen opportunity for collectors. Design Pattern: Lotus/Tulip Flared Block.
Material: Heavy Lead Crystal (Exceptional clarity and light refraction)
Height: 5” Tall x 2 5/8” Base x 5.25” Petal to Petal
Weight: Approx 2lbs 5oz (Heavy, bottom-dense construction)
Signature: Distinctly hand-engraved cursive Daum France signature etched into the side crystal near the bottom base.
When a candle is lit, the massive solid crystal base makes a powerful standalone sculptural statement.
Condition: No wax residue. Excellent mid-century condition with no cracks, flea bites or structural damage. The outermost tips of the petals are smooth and flawless. Crystal is clear, bright, and free of cloudiness. As is typical and expected with authentic, 60-year-old fine art glass, there is minor, faint sliding scratches on the very bottom surface from gentle display over the decades.
