Description
Up for sale is an exceptionally rare, highly collectible piece of pre-WWII American cutlery history: a vintage Western Cutlery Co. 3-blade Premium Stockman pocket knife, manufactured in Boulder, Colorado between 1928 and 1941. This historic piece is a custom contractor crossover model forged by Western for the legendary Marshall-Wells Hardware Company of Duluth, Minnesota. The secondary blade features a crisp, deep strike of Marshall-Wells iconic horned Viking Helmet trademark logo, while the master blade holds the early arched Western factory stamp.
The knife features a heavy-duty 3-blade toolkit containing a long carbon steel clip point master blade equipped with a vintage long pull nail nick, a secondary sheepsfoot blade, and a pen blade. The handles are genuine natural smooth bone that has aged over nearly a century into a gorgeous, highly sought-after golden yellow color. The frame is assembled with solid brass liners, flush handle pins, an inset nickel silver corset shield, and rounded end bolsters. This is a phenomenally honest, untouched estate barn find perfect for an advanced collection.
Condition Notes
This vintage pocket knife is in solid, functional condition and is being sold exactly as pictured. The major highlight is the mechanics, all carbon steel blades retain a strong walk-and-talk action with an audible opening and closing spring snap. The original carbon steel blades show an authentic dark aged patina, uniform pocket tarnish, light sharpening wear, and scattered age pitting appropriate for its era. The smooth aged bone handle scales possess beautiful color and texture; please note there is a visible historic chip/break on the reverse scale near the corner pin edge as clearly highlighted in the macro photos. Bolsters and liners remain tight. Please review all high-resolution photos to verify precise dimensions, stamp markings, and full aesthetic condition before buying.
