Up for sale is a beautiful, authentic vintage mid-century Inuit stone sculpture depicting a fish. This piece features a dense, heavily polished dark basalt/ironstone variety native to the Nunavik (Arctic Quebec) region, weighing a substantial 10.5 ounces despite its compact 4.5-inch size.
The sculpture showcases classic Inukjuak styling, contrasting an unadorned, sleek geometric silhouette with incredibly fine, hand-etched surface graphics. The entire body is detailed with a meticulous repeating fish scale motif and deep parallel fin scoring.
The flat underbelly features a stable base for display and is hand-signed \"JOSEPH\" in English block print.
Measurements:
• Length: Approximately 4.5 inches (from nose to the fork of the tail fin)
• Height: Approximately 2.25 inches (from belly to the high ridge of the back)
• Width: Approximately 1.5 inches at its thickest point across the midsection
Condition Report:
This piece is in excellent vintage condition. There are no chips, cracks, or deep structural scratches anywhere along the body, nose, or delicate fin edges. The stone retains a smooth, well-preserved finish with a beautiful natural sheen. Please review all high-resolution photos carefully as they form part of the visual condition description.
