Echlin, Inc. was a major Connecticut-based automotive parts manufacturer that operated internationally through the 1970s–90s. This transparency was produced as part of a corporate art commission — a documented side of Alexander’s practice alongside his science fiction publishing work.
The painting depicts a sweeping futuristic cityscape rendered in Alexander’s signature airbrush-and-gouache style: organic dome architecture, elevated structures, warm luminous tones, and the precise mechanical detail that defined his commercial work. The futuristic vision of Toronto makes this of interest to both sci-fi art collectors and Toronto/Canadian memorabilia collectors.
Paul Alexander was represented by Mendola Ltd. Artists Representative in New York and is considered one of the premier “gadget” artists of the 1970s–80s sci-fi illustration era, grouped by historian Vincent Di Fate alongside John Berkey, Dean Ellis, and Christopher Foss.
