Vintage Native American sterling silver belt buckle featuring a bold Thunderbird design with deeply grooved and granular tufa-cast texture. The buckle is substantial and solid, weighing approximately 75 grams and measuring approximately 3\" wide x 2.25\" tall. Artist signed “EWK” on the reverse, along with additional unidentified pictorial and letter/number stamps: lower case t, bear paw and sun rays, and VI8. The sterling silver content was verified by repeated acid testing, including testing after filing through the surface at an inconspicuous edge to rule out surface plating. Exact artist and tribal affiliation are unknown, but possibly the Kee family and likely Navajo affiliation. The construction and pronounced textured surface are consistent with traditional tufa/sand-cast Southwestern silverwork. Vintage condition with scratches, patina, and light oxidation. Acid testing left a small flattened/filed area along the edge, as shown in the photos. Please review all photos for condition, markings and details.
