Up for sale is a classic piece of mid-century engineering history: an original Keuffel & Esser \"Beginner\'s Slide Rule,\" model N4058W, complete with its original textured protective slipcase. Manufactured in Hoboken, New Jersey, this 10-inch class computing rule was the essential training tool for future scientists, engineers, and architects during the dawn of the Space Age.Key Features & Details:
- Model Variation: The \"W\" suffix designates the premium white-painted wood finish, offering a clean, sharp look contrast to unpainted models.
- Classic Scales: Features A, D, and K scales on the base frame, with B, CI, and C scales on the front face of the slide. The reverse side of the slide includes S, L, and T trigonometric scales.
- Historical Conversion Chart: The entire back of the wood rule is printed with a highly detailed reference matrix of equivalents, settings, and constants derived from the historic U.S. Bureau of Standards Circular No. 47. [1, 2]
- Cursor Style: Equipped with the correct, vintage, all-plastic frameless indicator cursor window secured by micro-screws.
Condition:
Very good vintage condition. The white-painted face remains bright with clean, crisp, highly legible black scale increments and numerical stampings. The central wood slide draws smoothly across the frame channels. The original frameless plastic cursor window is clean and clear with a solid vertical hairline axis line intact. The textured protective storage sleeve shows typical edge rubs, minor corner scuffs, and superficial storage wear consistent with standard student use, but it remains structurally sound with gold gilt logo branding text legible. Left entirely uncleaned to preserve its authentic mid-century look. Please review all high-resolution photos for exact scale details, case markings, and aesthetic conditions. An ideal accent piece for an engineering desk, math department display, or vintage instrument collection!
