Vintage Japanese Two-Faced Clay Bell - Oni & Okame - Mayoke Suzu Dorei
A charming vintage Japanese folk toy clay bell with two faces in one.
DESCRIPTION:This is a traditional Japanese "Dorei Suzu" (clay bell). One side is a fierce Oni demon face to scare away evil spirits, the other side is a smiling Okame / Otafuku face to bring good luck and happiness. When shaken, it makes a gentle ringing sound.
- Size: approx. 5-6 cm (mini size, please see photos)- Material: Clay / Earthenware with hand-painted glaze- Marking: White Japanese characters on the side read "MAYOKE" meaning "to ward off evil"- Condition: Vintage, good condition. Light wear from age. Original red cord included. Bell rings nicely inside.- Origin: Japan, Showa era folk craft
