This stunning vintage 18" Indian brass aftaba ewer (also known as a surahi or pitcher) is a standout piece of mid-20th-century craftsmanship from India, marked S.A.H India on the base—likely from the renowned brass workshops of Moradabad or similar export hubs.
Exceptional hand engraving covers the entire body with delicate, finely detailed floral vines, leaves, blossoms, and foliage—true artisan handwork that creates beautiful depth and texture. The vibrant red enamel/lacquer background provides striking contrast to the gleaming brass inlays, making the intricate patterns pop. A central oval medallion features even more refined hand-engraved floral motifs, adding an elegant focal point inspired by Persian/Mughal designs. ** See Pictures **
Highlights:
- Impressive size: 18" tall, 11.5" wide (spout tip to handle edge), weighs 2 lbs 11.2 oz—substantial, display-worthy, and heavier/more solid than most similar pieces.
- Hinged domed lid with secure brass mechanism opens smoothly to reveal a clean, unlined brass interior with natural age patina.
- Long curved spout, arched handle, and stable brass base for classic form (primarily decorative—great for shelves, tabletops, or as a unique accent).
- Excellent vintage condition: No dents, cracks, or major damage; bright red enamel with minimal wear; light natural brass patina adds authentic character without detracting from beauty.
- Ready to shine as boho, ethnic, Middle Eastern, Islamic-inspired, or global decor—perfect conversation piece for collectors who appreciate fine hand-engraved details.
A quality handcrafted export treasure from the 1960s–1980s era—far superior in engraving detail, size, weight, and overall refinement compared to common smaller or basic etched versions.
As with all vintage items of this age, it is offered as-is with no returns—please review all photos and description carefully.
