Vintage Zapotec hand-woven 100% wool tapestry / accent rug from Oaxaca, Mexico.
Features a beautiful pictorial design inspired by ancient Mesoamerican codices. The graphic shows a figure in ceremonial attire carrying a traditional cargo frame (cacaxtli) and holding a smoking ritual offering vessel. The sides are accented with geometric stepped borders mimicking the stone ruins of Mitla.
Woven entirely by hand on a pedal loom using rustic, hand-spun wool in rich, natural earth tones (creams, deep browns, and blacks). This makes a fantastic statement piece for Southwestern, bohemian, or mid-century modern home decor.
Condition: Excellent vintage condition. Structurally sound with tight weaving and beautiful natural texture variations.
• Dimensions: 26” wide x 46” long (measured from end of fray to fray)
