This is a charming vintage decorative box, likely Chinese export style, featuring a red lacquered body with hand-painted gilt scrollwork and a gold maki-e decoration of lotus flowers with stylized longevity symbols on the sides.The lid is inset with a genuine blue-and-white porcelain shard, showing a hand-painted architectural scene, a classic technique for repurposing broken porcelain into decorative lacquerware.The interior is lined in black lacquer.This is a late Qing export piece from about the 1880\'s to around 1910Measures approximately 6 inches long, 3.5 inches wide, and 2.5 inches tall. Acquired from an estate sale.In overall good vintage condition with wear consistent with age — please see photos, including a close-up of a small chip at one corner of the lid where the lacquer has flaked to reveal the substrate beneath.
