Vintage solid-brass outside measuring caliper clearly stamped “AMT” near the pivot. Its nearly circular jaws were designed to capture and compare the outside diameter of a rounded object. The measurement could then be transferred to a ruler, another workpiece, or a corresponding component. This practical form would have been useful to a potter fitting lids and maintaining consistent vessel proportions, as well as to sculptors, woodturners, modelmakers, and patternmakers reproducing rounded forms. It represents an older hands-on approach to measurement: rather than displaying a numerical reading, the tool physically preserves a dimension so the craftsperson can carry it directly from the original object to the work being shaped. The warm aged brass, simple mechanical construction, and visible AMT marking give the piece appeal both as a usable studio instrument and as a collectible example of traditional artisan equipment. Its association with an estate containing sculpture, pottery, carving, and printmaking tools further supports an artistic or workshop application. The pivot moves and the two measuring halves open and close. No graduated scale is present. Only the AMT brass caliper is included. Please review the photographs for exact size, markings, patina, and condition.
