Each sheet contains genuine preserved botanical or algal material accompanied by its original scientific identification and collection label.
Included are:- Jack-in-the-pulpit — Arisaema triphyllum (L.) Schott, collected May 15, 1979 in Alamance County, North Carolina, at 650 ft., from low rich woods. Particularly attractive complete presentation retaining the characteristic three-part leaf and dried spathe.- Red Buckeye — Aesculus pavia L., collected April 20, 1979 in Alamance County, North Carolina, at 650 ft., from pond margins. Large specimen displaying palmate compound leaves together with flowering material.- Bladekelp — Laminaria agardhii Kjellman, collected May 1979 at Wakefield, Rhode Island, from below the low-tide line, attached to rocks and shells.
All three sheets bear Carolina Biological Supply Company, Burlington, N.C. 27215 markings on their versos. These are genuine approximately 47-year-old preserved specimens rather than botanical prints or reproductions.
The scientific value of this format is well established: Arisaema triphyllum is represented by comparable preserved herbarium sheets in university collections, while Laminaria agardhii is documented in major algae collections from Rhode Island and elsewhere in New England.An appealing vintage natural-history collection suitable for collectors of herbaria, botany, marine biology, scientific teaching materials, pressed plants, natural-history ephemera or botanical décor.
