Rare vintage Eskimo / Inuit-style soapstone carving of a standing hunter with raised spear, signed Lange.

This is a hard-to-find piece. Very few Lange-signed carvings surface, and this one is an excellent example. The hunter is carved from solid speckled gray-green soapstone with nice natural inclusions and a classic 1970s commercial Arctic style. He stands in a strong pose with one arm raised high holding the original bone/ivory spear. Facial features, hooded parka, and X marks on the boots are all clearly carved. The signature “Lange” is cleanly inscribed on the bottom of one foot.

Height: 5 inches (without spear)

Width: approximately 3 inches

Weight: 1 lb 4.3 oz (solid and substantial)

The original spear is present and intact. Piece is in very good vintage condition with only light surface wear consistent with age. No chips or repairs noted.

This is a scarce signed example that would make a great addition to any Eskimo, Inuit, or Arctic art collection. Strong presence on the shelf and ready to display.
