Vintage 1968 Zippo USS Snowden DE-246 U.S. Navy lighter featuring colorful double-sided military ship graphics. This is the full-size/standard Zippo, not the smaller Slim model. The front features the USS Snowden DE-246 sailing in front of a blue globe surrounded by gold laurel branches. The reverse features the USS Snowden crest, DE-246 designation and the motto “Dum Spiro Spero.”The bottom is marked Zippo, Bradford PA with three vertical date-code lines on each side (III / III), dating the lighter to 1968.The lighter appears to have seen little to no use. The wick appears clean and unburned, with no obvious charring or soot visible around the wick/chimney. I cannot verify that it has never been fired, so I am not representing it as definitively unused. Please review the detailed photographs and judge condition for yourself. The original colored decoration remains bright and very well defined on both sides, especially considering its age. The chrome finish does show scratches, surface marks and other normal signs of age/storage. It has not been polished or restored. The lighter has not been filled or lit/tested by me, and I am making no guarantee regarding current operation. Because of its age, servicing or replacement of the flint, wick or other components may eventually be necessary. Please review all photographs carefully, as they are part of the description.
