Vintage 1930s Halloween Party Cracker Pixie Elf Table Favor Unopened Rare
Description
Offered is a charming vintage Halloween party favor in the form of a decorative cracker, featuring a delightful hand-painted composition pixie (or Halloween elf) with an orange and black crepe paper ruff and an embossed “Halloween Greetings” seal.
Based on its materials, construction, typography, and overall design, I believe this piece dates to approximately the 1930s (possibly late 1920s through early 1940s). The hand-painted composition head, embossed foil label, early cellophane wrapping, and printed paper all exhibit characteristics commonly found on Halloween novelties from that era.
One interesting aspect of this piece is that I am not completely certain whether it was intended to function as a traditional pull-apart party cracker or if it was sold as a decorative Halloween table favor made in the shape of a cracker. There is a plain cardboard strip attached to the underside, and because I have chosen not to disturb the construction, I have left it exactly as found. It appears to remain in its original assembled state.
The little pixie has wonderful folk-art character with hand-painted facial features and a pointed cap. The orange and black crepe paper collar and bright “Halloween Greetings” label give it terrific display appeal for any vintage Halloween collection.
Condition
Very good vintage condition overall.
* Composition head shows expected age-related crazing and paint wear.
* Minor wear to the pointed hat.
* Original paper, crepe paper, and cellophane remain present.
* Halloween Greetings label displays beautifully.
* Cardboard strip remains attached to the underside.
* I have not attempted to open or separate the piece and cannot confirm whether it still contains an original snap or interior contents.
* Please review all photographs carefully as they form part of the description.
This is an increasingly difficult style of early Halloween party favor to find, particularly with its original figure and decorative paper still intact. It displays beautifully and would make a wonderful addition to any collection of vintage Halloween ephemera, party favors, or seasonal décor.
